Enormous Benefits of Propolis

Propolis, the “caulk” that honeybees use to seal their hives, has been used since ancient times for its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. However, recent research suggests specific forms of propolis may offer quite a bit more.

In his November 2012 article, “The Latest Weapon in the War on Cancer: Honey Bees,” natural health expert Dr. Joseph Mercola discussed a University of Chicago Medical Center study that showed that CAPE (caffeic acid phenethyl ester), derived from Green Propolis Extract, was able to slow tumor growth in both human prostate cells as well as mice. In addition to this exciting potential, Dr. Mercola said propolis has demonstrated powerful immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s important to note that not all propolis products are the same. The vast majority of propolis is brown in color and is derived from the bark of trees like birch. While brown propolis does offer impressive benefits, the most exciting research is being conducted on the more rare green and red forms, as they appear to offer both unique and more powerful constituents than brown. Green appears to offer benefit to prostate and breast cells while red demonstrates hormonal support and anti-aging benefits.

Currently, only Natura Nectar™ offers chemical free, water-extracted Green Bee Propolis and Red Bee Propolis that are standardized for compounds, including CAPE. The product I take and my favorite for general health is Bee Propolis Trio, a combination of all three forms—brown, green and red. I like the Trio because I believe it gives me the benefits of all three—immune, inflammation, prostate and anti-aging. In addition, Natura Nectar offers a variety of clinically studied products that have been used for nearly 30 years in Europe. Hydration depends on having the right balance of minerals inside and outside your cells, so water moves where it is needed. Without them, water can pass through the body without fully hydrating the tissues.

For many, allergy season doesn’t begin with sneezing. It starts with sinus pressure, headaches and post-nasal drip. By the time classic allergy symptoms show up, the immune system has often been reacting for weeks.
