Maca for sex drive, hormones and more

This is a subtitle for your new post

For years maca, a root vegetable that grows high in the Peruvian Andes, has probably been best known for its ability to help restore libido for men and women. More recently, natural health experts have been recommending this superfood for a broader set of symptoms including: menopausal support, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sperm production and motility in men and increased metabolism, stress reduction and memory improvement in general.

Recent studies have begun to show while all Peruvian maca has benefit as a superfood, there are actually 13 different sub-types of maca each possessing different medicinal qualities. For example, we now know red maca is best for prostate health, black maca for energy and sexual function, and still others offer the best support for menopausal issues. This may finally explain why people experience varied results from traditional maca as these products have not been harvested to maintain sub-type distinction.

However, these benefits are sometimes hit or miss, providing great benefit for some, while missing the mark for others. Thanks to some new research, we may now know why.

With this in mind, if you’re looking to add a wonderful superfood for general vitality, there are several maca products I can recommend. However, if you’re looking for a more specific therapeutic result, I recommend the Maca-GO™ line from NHI, a unique organically grown and processed, proprietary combination and ratio of four major subtypes of Peruvian maca.

In fact, NHI tailors their maca blends for gender and life-stage to maximize effectiveness. Femmenessence is a line offering women specific products based on their hormonal stage - child-bearing, pre or post-menopausal, while Revolution is a specific blend tailored to men’s needs. While some people report feeling benefits within 10 days, clinical studies report full benefit occurs after two months of continual use.

Hydration depends on having the right balance of minerals inside and outside your cells, so water moves where it is needed. Without them, water can pass through the body without fully hydrating the tissues.

For many, allergy season doesn’t begin with sneezing. It starts with sinus pressure, headaches and post-nasal drip. By the time classic allergy symptoms show up, the immune system has often been reacting for weeks.

Over the years, I’ve tried just about every type of multivitamin out there: tablets, capsules, raw food blends, fermented formulas, you name it. And while many are a clear step above your big-box brands, it’s rare I come across one that actually makes me want to switch. Recently, I started taking the True Grace 50+ Multi , and I’ve been genuinely impressed. First, it checks all the right boxes for me. It’s made with fermented, whole-food-based nutrients that are easier on the stomach and better absorbed. It’s free of synthetic fillers, artificial colors, GMOs, and gluten. What makes this formula stand out is what it offers beyond the basics. This isn’t just another multivitamin with the usual laundry list of nutrients. True Grace 50+ is designed with targeted support for four key areas of healthy aging. You’ll find Lion’s Mane mushroom for brain health, CoQ10 for heart and cellular energy, and MenaQ7 (a patented form of vitamin K2 ) to guide calcium to the bones instead of the arteries. It also includes antioxidants to support long-term vision, which is a growing concern for many of us over 50. What really caught my attention, though, is ergothioneine , a naturally occurring amino acid often referred to as the “longevity vitamin.” It helps protect cells from oxidative stress and supports brain, heart, and skin health. Most multivitamins leave it out entirely or include only a token amount. This formula delivers a full 5 mg per serving, a dose that actually makes a difference. While the 50+ formula is what I personally use, True Grace offers a full line including Men’s and Women’s core multis , 40+ versions , plus a prenatal for moms-to-be. All with the same focus on clean, effective nutrition. Do I still believe in other whole-food-based multis? Absolutely. But this is the first time in a long while I’ve actually made a switch. And I’m glad I did. Mike Ventresca is the owner of Vital Choice Health Store located at 9243 Sprague Road in North Royalton’s Timber Ridge Plaza.
